As coincidence as it was, I found this Watsons article which I went last Friday in today’s Star Metro.
IT WAS a special night but the lukewarm response to the concert in honour of Watsons Personal Care Store’s 12th anniversary put a damper on the occasion.
Three thousand guests had been expected to attend the birthday bash and concert held at Dewan Wawasan in Menara PGRM, Cheras, on Feb 24 but the hall was barely half full when the event, featuring Malaysian Idols Jaclyn Victor and Daniel Lee, started at 9pm.

The unusual traffic crawl along Jalan Pudu Ulu was first thought to be the reason for the slow crowd, and the concert was delayed by an hour. But, even halfway through the performances, the hall remained visibly empty.
Tickets to the concert had been given to Watsons shoppers who made a minimum purchase of RM50 at 12 selected outlets in Kuala Lumpur. A total of 3,000 free tickets were given out on a first-come-first-served basis and all were snapped up in two days. (Funny has to how it’s written 3,000 tickets given but the amount of ppl who turned up was somehow disappointing..I mean they just threw the ticket away? How wasted can that be?? You bought the equivalent amount of stuffs which came together with the tix but you didn’t even bother to attend a free concert…so your loss)
But, if Watsons customers were not appreciative of the effort put into the staging of the concert, staff members of the international personal care retail chain are to be commended for being an enthusiastic lot.
They turned out in full force, clutching fluorescent wands and cheering on their favourite singers. Besides the Watsons employees, there was a group of Daniel Lee’s fans clad in pink T-shirts who were called Pinkies, plus fans from Jacsville, the fan club devoted to Jaclyn Victor. (Right as the show was to begin, everyone was screaming Jac! Daniel! Watsons! Jac Daniel! Watsons! LOL…what a nice rythm)
When Watsons Malaysia brand ambassador Cheryl Samad, who co-hosted the concert, introduced the first performer - none other than Malaysian Idol 2005 Daniel Lee - the crowd, especially the girls, went wild (Believe me when they said wild, it was absolutely WILD). Lee sang a fast-tempo Mandarin number called The Choice from his debut album.
He wowed the crowd further with a soulful rendition of the ’70s Indonesian love ballad Angin Malam, before making way for his predecessor and Malaysian Idol 2004, Jaclyn Victor.

(LOL…very clear shot of Ostrova there XD)
Clad in a little black dress with a sheer red shawl and big loop earrings, Victor sang a cover version of Jessica Simpson’s Angel. She then sang a cover version of Mariah Carey’s popular love ballad, Always Be My Baby. (Something went wrong with the song as it wasn’t minus-1 at the beginning)
It was soon Lee’s turn again and he returned to the stage with an unplugged medley of Rick Price’s Heaven Knows, True and Belaian Jiwa. However, he stole the limelight with Mimpi (Pinkies all stood up and waved their banners like mad I tell ya), the song he sang for the Malaysian Idol 2005 competition.
Victor got the crowd to participate in the last two songs she sang solo for the night (Big Spender and I Will Survive. For the latter song, she invited 5 members of Pinkies from the audience as well as 5 members of Jacsville up the stage to dance with her. Initially Kenny & I were called up since we represented the Jacsvilles but I was way too embarassed to go dancing up on stage hehe..Ostrova, KY and piggygrace who was seated beside me when up to represent Jacsville then. You guys didn’t see the most exciting moment when Jac asked KY to gelek and boy KY really can gelek man!! LOL we were all cheering for him down there cos he did it so outstandingly!) before being joined by Lee, Samad, Watsons general manager Ian Cruddas and Watsons health and beauty queens on stage to cut the anniversary cake. (LMAO, the cutting cake ceremony went awfully wrong here, after we sang the birthday song, confettis were shot from side ways and by golly, all of it fell directly onto the cake with lighting candles, and the next thing you know, fires started spreading on the stage with the confettis burning here and there and that’s when it struck you right at the moment that the table cloth was on fire as well!!! Cheryl, Lee, Ian, Jac & Daniel were frantically putting out the fires on stage and all of us below could only stare in horror and disbelief LOL..this incident was something to really remember. And thank god the fire was immediately distinguished )
Lee and Victor later sang a duet while a confetti finale signalled the end of the concert. (First song was Let’s Get Loud and the final song..take a guess..excited to have a chance to listen to them for the first time doing this song which has never been done anywhere before, teng teng teng..Carrie Underwood’s Inside Your Heaven. They both blended in the song superbly)
Oh wow what a night, the RM50 worth of product purchased from Watsons was never a waste. The show was just awesome, and what a bang.
After the show, since Michael was living around the area, we opted for a supper session with him together with KM, KY, Ostrova and Kenny. We went to this coffeeshop where later we bumped into Pinkies’ Jwong, Lily White and 3 more members I don’t recognised suppering at the same coffeeshop. Kenny offered a ride to me back after supper.
