Worst day of a weekend..

Early morning Sunday, was catching Australian Idol 3’s top 4 performances. 2 of my favs, Anne & Daniel are gone..hoping for Emily to bag the title but the results have been announced on Sunday night itself in Australia of course..call me slowpoke whatever..I don’t wish to know the winner here till I finally watch to the grand finals. Still downloading Top 4’s results which is why I had to cut my pace back…damn whoever who uploadesd it mininova..where in the bejesus is the seeder??!! There’s like 15 of us leechers..waiting and waiting in line. The download’s gonna take freaking forever.

That’s not the problem my weekend though. Had just formatted my hard disk a couple of days ago..haven’t install my burner program. So I did the usual process..click this click that.."Windows must restart in order for the blah blah program to work". Clicked restart. Wait.

The blue screen appeared. Stated something’s wrong with D: and required scanning. The display…

D: appears to be not a Windows XP drive. Error writing on output log….

0_o…..o_0…..0_o….o_0…..o_0….0_o……

Okay..what the bloody hell just happened? Windows restarted really slow, hung up now and then. Quickly access My Computer. Clicked on D:. It hanged. Panicked. Annoyed. I have tonnes of vids and pics here which I’ve collected with hardship over the past years and it tells me I can’t access it anymore???!!!! WTF??!! If it’s some kind of a lame joke played by my comp, it’s nowhere near funny. Kaboot…gone..I tried uninstalling the burner program..didn’t help one bit. I don’t get it..I installed that program on my C: and my D: paid the price. It didn’t happen at all the last time. What’s the logic in that???!!Took every counter measures I could think of..system restore, reinstalling windows everything..nothing worked. My D: is totally unaccessible.

For a moment there, my life just went drained out to the very last soul. My precious stuffs in that drive…Nooooooooo..I couldn’t accept the fact.

Then I thought back. This harddisk has been with me for 4 years plus now. Bought it back together with the rest in Dec. 2000. Which means my hard disk’s lifespan is reaching 5 next month. Well, probably the lifespan’s shortening, indicating that it’s time I need a new hard disk now. But I wasn’t ready to give up on my old one. It has been 5 years since I started using it. There’s still the least of fondness between us. LOL nah..I’m just determined to retrive as much data as I could from it. Thank god there are such programs without having to bring it to a service center for a killer fee.

The next day, called Shi Xue for help guidance since he’s the true expert in this field as far as I’ve known. Told me to get the data program recovery from him at Olympus HQ in Mont Kiara. The software needs another hard disk at present to be the backup of my slightly defunct hard disk. I thought the best and nearest person I could loan a hard disk for a few hours were my cousins. Went over to their house, tested the hard disk on their pc but it didn’t work. Rechecked the connections and try again, still no responds. My hard disk totally could not even boot. Gave up after several more attempts so my cousin reset his pc. He turned on the power…no respond..rechecked the connections and turned it on again..still nothing. Now I’m in for a major trouble. I even screwed up my cousin’s comp big time. Immediately got it to a computer shop in ss2 to have it fixed. What’s weird was, the technician assembled his pc and it ran perfectly fine. Thank god..there’s nothing wrong with it lah..dunno what did he do..scared the hell out of me.

Since I’m around this area, might as well get my hard disk here. Bought the Maxtor 80 gigs 8MB cache for RM209. Very much the price you get around Lau Yat. Hm..might visit this place later for I don’t have to travel all the way down to KL anymore just to buy some tech stuffs.

Well, out of 5 gigs stuff, managed to retrace 1 gigs from my old hard disk (could savour some of the Idol vids, most of Idols mp3s are totally gone..even Idols’ pictures I took from Sri Pentas..only a handful returned. Rest are history. Fortunately enough..I did upload most of them to my friendsters’ blog back then. Consider myself lucky 20% of my personal stuff came back intact.
