WTH..Trish & Atilia voted off!! @o@

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

Okay that was the most outrageous results show in Idol history..seriously one of the best singers..Atilia knocked off the list just like that?!! What the hell were the voters thinking?? Trish I could at least understand as she didn’t quite deliver the Alicia’s song well but Atilia??

When Cheryl was announcing the results between her and Ejay, she was practically breaking down…I feel her.. "Peserta yang akan kekal dalam pertandingan ialah…" I was expecting Atilia..Atilia..A..ti..lia… Ejay! Bang! Gunshot right in the centre of my madness pumping heart..

Well..who else to blame…we didn’t vote smart enough..

Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself next week..

Malaysian Idol 2

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

For the past 3 weeks, I’ve not begun to write about the latest installment of this popular reality talent show. What I like about the show is the dramatic music being played every time the contestants are being called safe or bottom 3. For me, this what distinguishes the uniqueness from any other reality shows. The format that Simon Fuller created really intrigued me.

The 11 finalists are finally completed and set to gear up for the spectaculars starting next Friday. Frankly, this year’s finalists are way diversified and balanced comparing to last years. Yes, no one was as good as Jaclyn Victor but hey, let’s face it, at least we have a tough competition on the go. Save for some, at least half of the 11 contestants are giving the show the money to run for. Unlike last year, many of us clearly deduced Jac would obviously be the ultimate winner in the end with her flawless rendition of songs every week. Too predictable, which isn’t too exciting for a reality talent show.

Here’s what I think of the 11 finalists so far;

Atilia – She belted Aretha Franklin’s Natural Woman with power and strength. One of the best for workshop 1 besides Fauzi. Her lacked of exposure during the auditions or even the theatre eliminations wasn’t an obstacle for the viewers to dismiss her talent. Some claimed her sense of dressing looked too much like that of an auntie but for me, I thought she dressed comfortably the way she portrayed herself. Maybe only during the workshop, that attire didn’t quite suit her.

Faizull – The hard rock edge singer of the competition, dubbed the "Orang Kampung" trademark by himself. Can’t deny he has a very strong voice, but the music genre he chooses to sing might not go in favour with half of the viewers. Typically the hard rock songs he sang are pretty ear deafening for they screamed throughout the entire song.

Xerra – The gal in pink (We had Nikki McKibbin in AI 1, Vanessa Olivarez in AI 2 and Amy Adams in AI 3). She looked promising in her audition in KL, despite it, she put on a rather mundane performance in the workshop. I’m hoping to see more of her solid performances later on. Please don’t blow my high hopes, gal.

Ejay – Heard she sang Since You Been Gone during theatre eliminations and it rawked. I am dying to listen to it again in the spectaculars, since a big fan of Kelly Clarkson here J. In workshop 2, she went for another Kelly’s song, The Trouble With Love Is. It turned out all right, though a little pitchy here and there, I understand it wasn’t easy to do that song. She has a big voice, something similar to Kelly but of course on her own unique way. She is one of my current favourites.

Ash – This JB lad sang Kiss From The Rose and it turned out half decent. He seemed withholding his voice, which made him sound weak. The "Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me" duet with Faizull during the theatre eliminations wasn’t that bad. Perhaps of his good looks that the public decided to put him through.

Nita – A crowd favourite from the MI bluehyppo forum. Following the footsteps of Jac, she too makes her living by singing at pubs. Her rendition of "Get Here" during the workshop 2 went easy on the ears. I’m not so convinced she’s that good so far. Am still eager to catch more of her song choices in the spectaculars.

Farah – "I Surrender" is one my favourite songs from Celine Dion, I loved both versions done by Kelly in AI 1 and Anthony Fedorov in AI 4. Though Farah’s version stood nowhere near as good as either both of them, I saluted her for giving an attempt. Songs like these will either make or break them. She certainly didn’t break the song as far as I’ve listened.

Daniel – The ‘pretty’ boy of the comp, where inadvertently the teenybopper’s gal favourite ‘miraculously’ made it through. You can call it a predecessor of Vick from last year. However, Vick looked to be better than him at the overall standing for now.

Trish – Gal with the big voice, she’s one spunky lass, as I’d call her, who is very wise in choosing her songs, kind of a cross between Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot (notice the thick lips LOL). She is currently the top favourite of my list.

Adam – From what I’ve heard, he used to be a ballet dancer, hence the soft and slithery move on stage. Even then, his vocal was equally impressive, one of the best male voices but the only downside is, he has a rather emotional state which he needs to tone down a little if he intends to go far.

Azam – Know whom the winner of Manhunt: The Search for the Most Gorgeous Male Model was? Jon Johnson rang a bell? Meet his look alike. He’s tall, broad figure guy who might not necessary had one of the strongest voices, but his low register is really flawless and smooth. Most singers seemed to struggle with the low register part, which in turn had to rely on the higher register song to gain attraction. In his case, it’s the other way round. I have strong feeling he might gain a strong fan base soon, contrary to last years judges pick from the wildcard, Sufiah who was voted off on the first week itself.

They aired the Idols’ Journey So Far tonight at 9.30pm which you can call through to ask questions regarding about the show to your Idols or the judges (I tried several attempts but none succeed :[) and beginning from next week, an extra half hour programme called the Idols Diary will be shown a day before the Spectaculars. Something similar to Akademi Fantasia’s diaries, only it’s weekly instead of daily. Looking forward to it.

Finally, My Prrreeecious TV!!

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

Arrived at my doorstep today. Mum was in the hair saloon still with her hair wet had to rush back home to claim the TV from them. Earlier on, they couldn’t find where my house was so I had to direct them via the phone LOL. When I got back home, man…the 46 inches projection tv was wrapped in a really big box..and really heavy too!

A call from UK

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Surprisingly, I got a call from Wee Sheng in Liverpool on Sunday at about 11pm. That’d about roughly 3pmf or them . Apparently, it’s relatively pretty cheap making calls there..few minutes only costs a few RM cents and a half hour call at most was only about RM2. Wow..seriously really worth the long distant talk LOL. No wonder so not hesitant to call lar..

Anyway, the first thing I’d asked was their safety, due the recent terrorist bombing in 4 locations in London. Obviously London wasn’t any near Liverpool, but ya know…just being concerned. He said life’s there was quite simple..serene and tranquil. Studies weren’t as hectic as it seemed, as long as you did your homework, you’d be fine. The lectures’ explanations were easily understandable. Felt quite satisfied upon hearing that.

The Marybone apartment, according to him looked really nice and comfortable. Maybe so since it’s newly built. Rather envy they’re enjoying themselves there. Hng..I’d definitely make sure it’s my turn next year, just wait and see!

Where’s my Projection TV???

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Darn it..what the hell is taking Philips so long to deliver the thing to me house??! Been 2 weeks since I last called and yesterday I called again…just to be told to they would get at back me…and they never did. >:/

Apologise for the long hiatus

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Was rather busy lately to update my blog..now here I am full frontier again to write what I’ve missed the past few weeks.

Lessee…caught War Of The Worlds and recently Fantastic Four at the newly opened GSC One Utama located in the new wing that was extended to across the road. Look really nice, with the modern glass concept and white tiles. It’s no surprise when there are new shopping complexes being built, people will opt to flood these places.

Back to WOTW, actually we were really lucky there were exactly enough number of seats available on the time we arrived, not to mention the seats left are reasonably satisfactory. We came earlier about 5pm to purchase the midnight shows but only the first 2 front rows are available. We took the risk of trying to go for the released booked tickets and our efforts really paid ;).

The show was really heart-wrenching..imagine being a normal civilian in a quiet town, suddenly spontaneous lightning strikes at random places at the same time, unaware to us that tripods were buried deep down underground were relived. The next minute, people started running and screaming..turns out these tripods are evil techno machines planning to rule over the Earth, zapping any living creatures into thick black smokes that crosses its paths. From the title, I was expecting another war film..as it sounded like one..till I caught the preview. And from then, I was more than anticipated to watch it. Another one of those earth disasters like Deep Impact, Armageddon, The Core, The Day After Tomorrow etc interests me.

The ending seemed a little abrupt..can’t deny everyone was hoping a little more dramatic over the final battle between earth and martians. I guess no one knew even the tiniest orgasm or bacteria could have slowly degraded their lifespan here, leading to humankind victory again in the end..as always.

On to F4 (yes, I renamed the title to this if anyone’s familiar LOL), it was okay..I wouldn’t say good. Credit goes to the characters being portrayed by all 4 superheroes/heroins. In my opinion, the best would go to Ben Grimm a.k.a The Thing. His voice sounded pretty convincing…but I didn’t quite like the bulky rock yellow suit. Still worth a watch.

A blast at Sitiawan/Pangkor part II

Sunday, July 24th, 2005

Early Sunday morning, Mel gave a morning call at 6.45. Drowsy as I was, I made it out of the hotel about 7.30. In the car was Yuha, Thanem, Pey Tsei and Prathaban. Another vehicle throttled behind with Hasmani (Is this how you spell his name Mel?), Raymond and Farith. Siew Wei, her boyfriend and Huoy Feng will be meeting us at the jetty.

All 12 boarded the ferry at about 9. When we arrived at Pangkor, we took a van tour that fitted just right for the total number of people we had. First stop was at a coffee shop for our breakfast. Then, we reached the Dutch Fortress, where the Dutch built the fortress for defense purposes, only to be severely destroyed by soldiers later.

The next stop was a temple (forgotten what was the temple’s name though). We we crossing over a bridge when we noticed one particular fish is bigger and longer than the rest. We climbed all the way up and on the way a little replica of the

Great Wall of China

was situated. As we descended, they were even monkeys available to be watched here. What a surprise. Siew Wei fed them with some of those white coconut stuffs that you dug out inside of it and they instantly snatched it from her hands. LOL while they’re feeding, Raymond and Huoy Feng became the centre of topic by teasing each other that they are distant relatives of the monkey family.

The road was winding up and down, swerving left and right all the way. Pretty scary ride. We passed a spot where they place rows of ikan bilis stacked beside each other to be dried under the beaming sun. That explained the rather salty-like smell in the air at that very moment.

Our last stop was the ever beautiful Pangkor beach. It was a sunny day and people are swimming, jet-skiing, snorkeling etc. We took the boat ride around the island and it was definitely one breathtaking ride I’ve ever felt. The water splashing against the boat, moving at an enormous speed. The wind blowing through my face. It was so refreshing. We even stopped in the middle of the sea to have a little grasp on sea cucumbers. LOL little yucky thingys. Seriously, when I touched the surface, it feels like banana, except at the end of the pointed edge, some slimy, thick white juice is oozing out. OMG..it was disgusting..cos it looks and feels exactly like semen!! XD We had a great laugh with it, especially from the looks of the girls, their faces clearly shown discomfort of holding that ‘thingy’ XD.

When were back at the beach, I’ve got sand covering every tip of my toes. Getting rid of all was totally impossible so I tried to brush off as many as I could and stuffed my stockings back in. Felt really uncomfortable with most of the stand still intact between my toes.

So it was time to get back to the jetty. I felt asleep somewhere along in the journey, unaware that Pey Tsei had snapped a picture of me and Mel sleeping side by side LOL. When we arrived back here at the jetty, Siew Wei and her boyfriend parted ways while the rest of us had lunch at a nearby mamak restaurant.

After our lunch, it’s almost time for me to leave Sitiawan but before I left, I bought some packets of dried cuttlefish and ikan masin back. I used to love eating those dried cuttlefish and my dad loves the ikan masin. Pey Tsei knew the owner of the shop so he charged me a little cheaper for the stuffs.

It was time to board the bus. I waved goodbye to everyone. Glad that I had a wonderful trip here. Will miss every single one of them greatly. Especially Mel who’ve done a lot for me ;). Thanks for the gestures!
